Research Integrity

The Department of Biomedicine fosters a culture of integrity and expects its researchers to follow the values and principles by our supporting institutions:

- the University of Basel

- the Univerisity Hospital Basel

- the Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences

On suspicion of any breach of sound scientific practice, researchers will be asked to contact the relevant faculty confidant or University Integrity Ombudsman.
For details see “Code of Good Practice in Research"

For grant holders and employees financed by the US National Institutes of Health (NIH), a specific financial conflict of interest policy supplements the existing regulations by the University of Basel and the University Hospital Basel (in German).

The DBM urges its researchers to respect the recommendations concerning authorships on scientific publications by the Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences. See guidelines (in German).

All research involving human subjects is performed according to Swiss legislation and according to best practice as defined by Federal Office of Public Health’s http://www.kofam.ch/ and the Ethics Committee Nordwest- und Zentralschweiz http://eknz.ch/.

Animal welfare plays a major role at the Department of Biomedicine and at all research institutions of the University of Basel and is based on the principles by Swissuniversities.
See Swissuniversities' Policy for Animal Research.
