Welcome to the Team – Judith Zaugg Lab!
Professor Dr. Judith Zaugg has been heading a prominent research group at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL). She has been appointed as Professor of Molecular Medicine at the University of Basel and will lead the group 'Molecular and Computational Hematology-Immunology' at the DBM, while initially maintaining some activities at EMBL.
Prof. Zaugg’s research in Basel will concentrate on understanding the molecular mechanisms that drive hematological and immunological diseases, with a significant emphasis on how cells interact with their microenvironment. By integrating high-throughput molecular profiling at single cell resolution with advanced computational and machine learning techniques, her research seeks to uncover how genetic and chromatin-based modifications contribute to disease development, with important implications for blood disorders, autoimmune diseases, and cancer.
At her new laboratory in Basel, Judith Zaugg will lead efforts to identify and characterize the molecular and epigenetic factors that contribute to immune system dysregulation and blood cancers. Her team will use high-throughput single-cell and spatial molecular profiling approaches to explore the interactions between genetic variants, transcriptional regulators, chromatin structure, and their microenvironment. This research aims to discover new therapeutic targets and biomarkers, driving the development of precision medicine in hematology and immunology.
Her relocation to Basel represents a pivotal transition in her career, bringing her expertise and innovative approach to the forefront of molecular medicine, with the goal of enhancing diagnostic precision and improving patient care.
