- Prof. Dr. Alfred Zippelius has received funding for his clinical research project, “Unravelling the relevance of intratumoral NK cell subtypes in lung cancer using multimodal single cell and spatial analysis.” In collaboration with Dr. Karin Schäuble from the Department of Biomedicine and Prof. Dr. Matthias Matter from the Institute of Pathology, University Hospital Basel, this project will be driven by Clara Serger as part of her future postdoctoral research. NK cells play a critical role in tumor defense, with their presence typically associated with improved survival and treatment outcomes. However, the tumor microenvironment often suppresses NK cell functionality. This study will investigate NK cells in lung cancer patients to identify tumor-specific subsets, their spatial interaction partners, and the gene regulatory networks shaping their phenotype. The results aim to uncover novel therapeutic targets and enhance our understanding of NK cell diversity and function within tumors.
We congratulate them on their remarkable achievements and dedication to advancing cancer research.
