The Sobek Foundation has honored outstanding achievements in multiple sclerosis (MS) research with its prestigious 2024 Award. The 100,000 Euro Sobek Research Prize, Europe’s most valued award for MS research, has been awarded to Prof. Dr. Jens Kuhle, Head of the Multiple Sclerosis Center and Neuroimmunology Unit at the University Hospital Basel and Research Group Leader in Clinical Neuroimmunology at the Department of Biomedicine. The award acknowledges his pioneering work on biomarkers that is transforming personalized MS therapy and advancing the understanding and treatment of this complex disease.

Jens Kuhle’s research focuses on blood-derived biomarkers such as neurofilament light chain and glial fibrillary acidic protein. These markers provide critical insights into disease activity and progression, enabling individualized treatments and a deeper understanding of MS-related neurodegeneration. His work, carried out through the Swiss MS Cohort Study and extensive international collaborations, has earned global recognition and is widely published in leading scientific journals.

The annual award ceremony, organized in collaboration with AMSEL (Aktion Multiple Sklerose Erkrankter) and the German Multiple Sclerosis Society (Deutsche Multiple Sklerose Gesellschaft, DMSG), took place at the State University of Music and Performing Arts in Stuttgart under the patronage of the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts of the State of Baden-Württemberg

The DBM congratulates Prof. Kuhle on this well-deserved award.
