SNSF Starting Grant awarded to Dr. Mariana Borsa at the Department of Biomedicine
How can we age healthier?
The Swiss National Science Foundation SNSF awards Starting Grants to outstanding young researchers in Switzerland. The funding enables them to lead their own research project with an independent team. For researchers who do not yet hold a professorship, the grant is linked to an appointment as an assistant professor. In this year's call, the SNSF received 499 applications and awarded a total of 61 Starting Grants.
One of these prestigious SNSF Starting Grants goes to Dr. Mariana Borsa. Her research interests are related tot he reciprocal relationship between ageing and the immune system. More specifically, she investigates how ageing controls defined processes in T cells, including metabolic function and fate, and how these can be modulated by targeting metabolic organelles. With her research team at the Department of Biomedicine, Mariana Borsa ultimately aims at developing strategies to promote T cell rejuvenation and healthier immune ageing. The Borsa Lab is scheduled to start at the Department of Biomedicine in the summer of 2025.
